CGear Multimat Lands on Cockatoo Island

Seventy two CGear Multimats have been installed on Cockatoo Island by the Island's administrators.

CGear has had very positive feed back from the Island’s administrators and campers about the product and the fact that the version of the mat that is installed on Cockatoo Island is green is also a bonus as it blends in with it’s environment visually.

Cockatoo Island is Australia’s most unusual urban park - a heritage-listed island in the middle of beautiful Sydney Harbour.

The Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour and it’s one of Sydney’s foremost desinations to visit. Situated at the junction of the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers, the Island is a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol. It’s also the site of one of Australia’s biggest shipyards during the twentieth century. Convicts completed the first of it’s dry docks in 1857. Cockatoo Island’s maritime industrial activity ceased in 1992.

Today this facinating place still retains many remnants of its past history. Its prison buildings which are still standing have been nominated for World Heritage listing, along with other convict sites around Australia. Its various slipways, wharves, large maritime workshops, residences and other buildings give a view of the island’s industrial past.

With its commanding views of Sydney Harbour, a regular ferry service to the island allows visitors to enjoy and explore this amazing piece of Australia’s history. The camp ground features a cafe and a bar is to open in the near future. As well as the historical and camping attactions, regular exhibitions and art installations will soon be a feature of the island.
